Broadband works through cables which transmit data at very high speeds. Unlike dial up, a broadband connection is always on and depending on the service and type of broadband; it is 10 to 100 times faster than a 56kbps modem.

Satellite broadband – Satellite is a different type of broadband. Mostly used as a television service they operate on a limited number of frequencies. Speeds vary from 500Kbps to 80Kbps and are slower than DSL and cable modem.

Satellite broadband is similar to wireless as it sends signals via radio waves. These are transmitted via your satellite dish into space and then back to a receiving station. Speeds can also depend on where the satellite is in orbit, weather conditions and the line of sight between your dish and the satellite. Satellite is great if you are always on the road or in an area that is too remote to receive wireless broadband signals.
